Eintracht Frankfurt has missed the first Champions League home win. Against Tottenham, the Hessians scratched the victory, especially in the second half.
Eintracht Frankfurt drew 0-0 against Tottenham Hotspur. In an intense game on Tuesday evening, the Hessians showed a strong performance, especially in the second half. In the Group D Table the Hessians remain level on points with Tottenham in third place.
Again and again Kane and Son
Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner made two changes to his starting eleven compared to the 2-0 win against Union Berlin. The recovered Kristijan Jakic slipped into the starting eleven for Luca Pellegrini, Djirbil Sow replaced the ailing Mario Götze.
It didn’t take long for it to become clear that Eintracht had hosted a different caliber with Spurs than Union had been on Saturday. The Londoners defended sovereignly, on the offensive Harry Kane, Richarlison and Heung-min Son showed their class again and again.
The Hessians didn’t play badly at all, but they couldn’t prevent Spurs’ numerous chances. A Son cross was missed by Kane free-standing on the second post (12′), a feat that Son and Kane repeated directly in the 25th minute when Kane failed to reach a Son cross in the six-yard box. Son himself moved free in the 40th minute in front of Kevin Trapp after Kane skillfully let the ball through. Just three minutes later, Ivan Perisic’s shot went just wide of the post, deflected by Kristijan Jakic. The corners of the Spurs were always dangerous.
Rode is blocked
Eintracht played well and had a period of urgency in the middle of the first half, in which they squeezed Spurs in their own half. However, there was no way around a hundred percent chance, a shot deflected by Sebastian Rode (18th) was still the best opportunity for the Hessians. Especially in this phase, in which the beginnings were quite good, Götze would certainly have done Eintracht good.
The Hessians came out of the dressing room braver and quickly created clearer chances than in the first half. Angsar Knauff got a wonderful chip ball from Sow behind the defense, but Hugo Lloris was able to parry his volley directly from the penalty spot. Too bad, Knauff would have even had time to accept the ball.
Again and again Hasebe against Kane
A little later then the clearest Eintracht chance. The Hessians won the ball at the level of the opponent’s sixteen by pressing through Kamada and Rode, the ball fell in a roundabout way at Lindström’s feet, who, however, shot over the goal (62′). Eintracht did a lot right in this phase, only the goal was missing.
The game remained intense, Eintracht clearly bought the guts from Spurs in the second half. The entrance fee was worth it for the duels between Hasebe and Kane alone, the central midfield with Sebastian Rode and the formidable Djibril Sow that evening proved that it easily meets international standards. It was still not enough for a win, but the Hessians will be happy to take the point against a top Premier League team and the group favorites.
