Goalkeeper Stankovic in doubt at FC Volendam, otherwise fit selection against VVV-Venlo

After the big win against last-placed Helmond Sport, VVV-Venlo is waiting for FC Volendam in De Koel tomorrow evening. “VVV is currently in a better phase. It is just a very good opponent. I am very curious how we will get out of that”, trainer Wim Jonk looks ahead.

VVV-Venlo is in tenth place, but Jonk is still careful not to underestimate. “It is just a very good opponent for us. An away game in De Koel with an audience there. I am very curious how we will end up there.”

“They have taken the points again in recent weeks,” continues Jonk about VVV. “They had a bit more trouble before that. It is just a team that normally plays in the Eredivisie. In that respect, VVV-uit is always a difficult game.”

Missing players

“The well-known names will be absent: Derry John Murkin and Brian Plat. Filip Stanković is also in doubt, so we have to see how it goes in the morning”, trainer Wim Jonk explains about the absentees tomorrow. Besides Murkin, Plat and Stankovic, Jonk has a fit selection. “We always have guys with minor complaints. Some players who return from an injury and partly train. You have to look at that every day.”

Plat has been replaced by Benaissa Benamar in recent weeks and Jonk is very satisfied with his development. “Benamar was added a while ago of course. He has adapted quickly and is doing very well I must say. There is still a lot of stretch, so it is going in the right direction.”

With the replacement of Benamar, Plat does not seem to be returning to the base just like that. “It’s about always having enough competition within a team. That’s only healthy when you have multiple opportunities in a number of positions. Brian has also done well, so he also has to fight to get back into the starting lineup. “

Midweek, competitor FC Emmen lost expensive points against Helmond Sport. Nevertheless, there was still no reason to celebrate for Jonk. “It is always good when the competition loses points. You look more at yourself, as I often say. That is my guideline.”

No action for Ukraine

The trainer of the Volendam team has not yet mentioned an action for Ukraine. “In that regard, it is more up to our management and what comes from the club. Maybe we do something collective with other clubs.”

According to Jonk, the war in Ukraine is alive within the player group. “Everyone has to deal with it. We all watch the news, you are kept busy all day long. In that respect, it concerns all of us.”
