Unlike RB Leipzig, Örjan Nyland has secured his place in goal for the Norwegian national team. The 32-year-old had been signed by the Saxons after the injury-related failure of regular keeper Péter Gulácsi (32). The veteran hopes to be able to add more to his previous two appearances (one each in the cup and in the Bundesliga) – and wants to take advantage of the club’s small sporting dent.
“Recently we’ve had some results and performances that haven’t been optimal and that can open up new opportunities for me. I just have to keep going and take my chances when they arise,” Nyland said in an interview “Nettavisen Sport”. “I feel like I did well in the games I got to play in. Then there’s not much you can do other than work every day in training and show you’re ready.”

Janis Blaswich (31), who came for free from Heracles Almelo in 2022, is currently guarding the Leipzig goal. In 26 games across all competitions, he conceded 31 goals and kept eight clean sheets. For competitor Nyland, the “Red Bulls” are the next short-term stop and his fourth club since the beginning of 2021. His contract runs until the end of the season. “I feel in good shape, have already played a few games and gained match practice. I would of course wish for more games, but I’ll take what I can get,” said Nyland, who will meet Spain (Sat., 8.45 p.m.) and Georgia (Tues., 6 p.m.) in the European Championship qualifier with Norway.
The goalkeeper played the most games of his career at club level for Molde (84), in Germany Nyland had previously played for FC Ingolstadt (53 games). So far he has stood between the posts 42 times for his nation.
