With Tjark Ernst and Marius Gersbeck, Hertha BSC has two goalkeepers who have already proven their qualities several times in the 2nd Bundesliga. Now head coach Pal Dardai has apparently decided on his number one for the second half of the season.
During the winter training camp, Marius Gersbeck certainly wanted to do a lot of self-promotion in order to keep Hertha BSC’s goal in the second series. The former Karlsruher had lost his job due to a beating during the summer preparation, as he was subsequently suspended for a long time.
Youngster Tjark Ernst took over his position – and drew attention to himself with a whole series of brilliant parades. According to “Bild”, Pal Dardai has already decided that the 20-year-old will also be between the posts for the start of the second half of the season in the Olympic Stadium on January 21st against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Hertha BSC. Guaranteed regular place for Tjark Ernst
The expected duel for number one status during preparation will therefore not take place. The tabloid’s report even talks about a “regular place guarantee” for the German junior national player. The decision has already been communicated internally, it is said.
The ex-professional had already expressed his confidence in his goalkeeper talent weeks ago. “I’m very happy with him, but we know how it is: a young player also makes mistakes from which he then learns. But I’m really very happy with Tjark,” the former Hungarian international made clear.
Ernst himself was relaxed about the lack of a duel with Gersbeck anyway. “That doesn’t really matter to me. I’m concentrating on doing my job here from week to week and being a strong support for the team,” said the Stuttgart native, who now has a second half of the season as number one at the Old Lady.
