Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu from SC Freiburg is in the contingent of the German national soccer team for the first time. The 23-year-old was nominated on Monday by national coach Julian Nagelsmann for the World Cup qualification games against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland, since Oliver Baumann complains about nausea.

Atubolu recommended strong performance in Freiburg for months and became Vice European Champion in summer. Ex-national coach Joachim Löw recently campaigned publicly for the appeal of the Freiburg native.

In the pre -season, Atubolu set a club best with 609 minutes without a goal, and his five penalty in a row is a record for the Bundesliga. On Friday (8:45 p.m./ARD), the DFB selection in the qualification for the 2026 World Cup in Sinsheim on Luxembourg, three days later, game four is in group A in Belfast (8.45 p.m.).

Woltemade is also missing

Nagelsmann also has to do without storm hope Nick Woltemade. The form -strong professional of Newcastle United was missing on Monday at the meeting in Herzogenaurach due to a flu infection.

Nagelsmann waived a post-nomination, Woltemade is expected in the coming days in the DFB selection.
