From next season, the premier league will have additional goal-line cameras that can be used to assess whether a ball has completely crossed the goal line. The so-called Goal Line Replay will be used for the first time during the match for the Johan Cruijff Scale between Feyenoord and PSV on August 4.
Thanks to four new cameras, the VAR can very accurately assess whether or not a ball has completely crossed the goal line, the KNVB explains. The cameras are positioned to the left and right of the goal line. They are also useful for any VAR situations in and near the penalty area.
The Goal Line Replay is a new technique initiated and financed by the KNVB and the Eredivisie CV. In addition to extra goal-line cameras, the offside cameras will also be upgraded, which will allow sharper zooming, among other things.
