The spectators have decided: Rodrigo Zalazar’s goal from the center circle against 1. FC Nürnberg is the goal of the month for May 2022.
After the dream combination of Sven Michel and Kevin Behrens from 1. FC Union Berlin in April, the protagonist of May is Rodrigo Zalazar.
Dream day for Schalke 04
On matchday 34 of the 2021/22 second division season, not only Rodrigo Zalazar scored the goal of the month in May. Thanks in part to goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann, FC Schalke were crowned champions of the 2nd Bundesliga with a 2-1 win over 1. FC Nürnberg, and striker Simon Terodde was crowned top scorer in the second division for the fourth time.
Zalazar’s goal from within his own half
The most remarkable goal of the game, however, came from Rodrigo Zalazar. The ex-Frankfurter scored in the 15th minute: Nuremberg had moved up and lost the ball in attack – Darko Churlinov played to Zalazar and went steeply. But Schalke saw that FCN goalkeeper Carl Klaus (who was allowed to play instead of Christian Mathenia) was too far in front of the goal and gave him the ball from almost 60 meters. Schalke’s coach Büskens couldn’t believe it either, tearing his hair in perplexity at the stroke of genius.
It was the culmination of a steep upward trend from Zalazar, who had already scored the important goal against St. Pauli on the 33rd matchday to make it 3-2 and thus promote them.
Elected with almost 50 percent
Schalke clearly wins the vote with 48.5 percent of the almost 150,000 votes. Marcel Bär from 1860 Munich (16.4 percent) and Verena Hanshaw from Eintracht Frankfurt (13.41 percent) came in second and third. Fourth and fifth place went to Florent Muslija from SC Paderborn 07 (12.64 percent) and Marian Riedinger from Stuttgarter Kickers (9.36 percent).
