Finland will face Sweden at the Men’s World Hockey Championships on 18 May.
The match is somehow historic, as the Lions and Tre Kronor have not faced each other in the current format of the World Cup once in the group stage, with the group stage played as two groups of eight teams.
Finland and Sweden have last played in the group stage at the 2005 World Cup in Austria. It is therefore a startling 17 years since the previous Finnish-Swedish classic in the block phase.
Finland will already receive its beloved western neighbor in the block this time. Tre Kronor may have a hard bundle in the trough. Defenders Rasmus Dahlin and Erik Karlsson as well as the attacker Lucas Raymond have already announced their willingness to come to North America from the Games.
Buffalo Sabers striker Victor Olofsson is also willing to come to Finland.
– Now is a slightly more special year when a new agreement should be signed. I have to work it out with the club and the agent, Olofsson told Aftonbladet in Sweden.
“Music to the Ears”
The striker who made 16 + 21 = 37 in the NHL troughs this season would like to go to the tournament despite his contract situation.
– However, if you ask interest in the Games, the answer is definitely! I am always willing to play in a Tre Kronor shirt.
Known for his hard shot, Olofsson broke the 20-goal limit in the 2019–20 season, scoring 20 + 22 = 42 in 54 games. That is the most effective season of Olofsson’s career so far in the bucks league.
Aftonbladet also calls the 27-year-old striker “Goalofsson” in his story, as the man has been given that nickname because of his wild itching.

A “dream team” is planned for the Finnish World Cup in Sweden, Aftonbladet wrote earlier when Olofsson’s teammate Dahlin announced his desire to play in a Swedish shirt.
