Go Sharing leaves Zoetermeer: ​​’We want to come back’

It seems that the green scooters from Zoetermeer are disappearing. An email from Go Sharing to all users states that they are temporarily withdrawing from 32 cities in the Netherlands. Zoetermeer is one of them.

Since May 2021, Zoetermeer residents can use the electric shared scooters of Go Sharing via an app. That now seems to be coming to an end. “It is not profitable enough to stay in Zoetermeer,” says a spokesperson for Go Sharing.

Focus on larger cities

Go Sharing wants to focus on cities where more use is made of scooters. “The scooters in Zoetermeer are not used enough. Of course vandalism also plays a role, but that is not the main reason for our departure. In the remaining cities, scooters are simply used much more.”

“Our vision was to start in large cities, and to connect the surrounding municipalities as well. This can be done if the scooters are used a lot. Unfortunately, in many cities this is still lagging behind. That is why we are now going to focus on the cities where it is profitable.”

Return to Zoetermeer

Go Sharing eventually wants to return to Zoetermeer. “We are in talks with provinces and municipalities to see if there are subsidies that can make this profitable. These subsidies are available for public transport, but not for partial transport. If we see the opportunity to return, we certainly will.”

What happens to the credit?

If you still have money on the app, you can continue to use it until the scooters have left the city. After that, you can use the credit in other cities until the original expiration date. When will the scooters be gone?

Go Sharing will be removing more and more scooters from Zoetermeer in the coming weeks. You will therefore notice that there are fewer and fewer vehicles in the city. It is not yet clear when the shared scooters will completely disappear from the city.

Where are all those scooters?

Go Sharing departs from 32 cities. “All the scooters that we remove are given a facelift. They are provided with helmet cases and we put them in cities where partial transport is already used a lot. A number of scooters also go into hibernation.”
