Go back to 1948 with Films van Toen: Watch the village film by Emmer-Compascuum and see how milkman B. Aardema delivers dairy on his cargo bike

Old films experience new times at DVHN. And you can watch them from the comfort of your home. DVHN, in collaboration with the Drents Archive, broadcasts a Drenthe archive film every Sunday.

In 2022, each month a Drenthe municipality will be central. Every week we show a village video from that municipality. In September that will be Emmen. With today: Bucket-Compascuum. Images: JWL Adolfs.

Shortly after the Second World War, filmmaker Johan Adolfs made this village film in Emmer-Compascuum. There is a parade with all kinds of associations, such as the General Dutch Geheelonthoudersbond Emmer Compascuum department. In addition, we see shops and people fishing and cycling and the school is just closing. One of the villagers who clearly comes into the picture is milkman B. Aardema. He arrives with a cargo bike full of milk cans and other dairy products, and stops to pose for the camera.
