Glennis Grace felt like ‘the most hated woman in the Netherlands’ after she was discredited last February because of an argument that got out of hand. The singer did her story at the table with Jinek for the first time after seven months and partly confessed to blame. “I punched him in the face.”
Glenda Batta, as Glennis Grace is actually called, was arrested at the beginning of this year together with her 15-year-old son and a friend of the family in the Jumbo supermarket on the Westerstraat in Amsterdam. The son is said to have been violently kicked out of the store earlier in the evening after he took a puff on an e-cigarette inside, which falls under the smoking ban.
Glennis returned to the supermarket later in the evening with a group of acquaintances to address the employees involved. A fight ensued. She apologized for the incident in early April.
The singer said she did not expect the incident to “attract so much media”. That she decides to tell her story extensively for the first time at Jinek is therefore exciting for her. “This is an important day for me. Exciting too. I’m not here to be the victim in the first place. And secondly, to express once again my apologies to all the victims.”
Confronting
The singer also wants to straighten out some things. “A lot of lies have been told in the media. I’m not here for fun, but to make things clear.” The singer finds it confrontational that the incident has received so much attention. “It has become a big thing because of my name. I really don’t deserve the beauty prize, but it has become so big that I was told something about me every day on TV.”

I was sad to see my child like this and I didn’t quite know what to do
“The moment he (Glennis’ son (ed.)) came home, he had a bloody face,” the singer begins her story. “All I saw was my child’s face, bloodied, scratched. For me, as a mother, that goes through the marrow and bone. I was in shock, what happened here?” Her son said that he was smoking an e-cigarette at the exit of the Jumbo and was being punished for it by the staff. Glennis Grace didn’t know at the time that he was actually smoking all the time in the shop.
Didn’t fight with anyone
“I tried to stay calm myself. I was sad that I saw my child like this and I didn’t know what to do.” In the end she decided to go to the Jumbo, with three other people. The singer then addressed the person who allegedly pushed her son. When this employee, according to Glennis, laughed, she blacked out. “I punched him in the face.”
A fight then ensued in the supermarket, which Glennis says he did not participate in. ,,I didn’t fight anyone, I just pushed that employee. It has gotten really out of hand. That was absolutely not the intention.”
Glennis will appear in court on October 26 in Amsterdam. The Public Prosecution Service suspects her of threats, open violence and premeditated assault. If in the end it turns out that Glennis will have to be punished, she would ‘accept that’. ,,Secure.”
The Jumbo was called in advance by the editors of Jinek to tell them that Glennis was joining the broadcast. However, the supermarket declined to comment on the incident.
