The second part of Ridley Scott’s hit film Gladiator is slated to hit theaters in the United States on November 22, 2024, Paramount said. The 85-year-old Scott will once again direct the film, with Irishman Paul Mescal taking on the leading role. There have been persistent rumors of a sequel to the epic since 2001.
“Gladiator” was released in 2000 and was nominated for twelve Oscars at the time, of which it won five. Including Russell Crowe as best actor in the role of the general “Maximus”. The film’s story is based around the Roman Emperor Commodus, and the sequel will be set around 25 years after its predecessor.
In 2021, two films directed by Scott, “House of Gucci” and “The Last Duel”, were released in cinemas. A historical drama with Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte is to follow this year. He played Commodus in Gladiator.
Paul Mescal was last seen in Aftersun, for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars on March 13. His breakthrough came in 2020 in the series “Normal People”.
