Gladbach reacts clearly to harsh criticism from Max Eberl

The Max Eberl cause will probably keep Borussia Mönchengladbach busy for some time. After the former manager had recently publicly criticized the behavior of those responsible for Gladbach because they had not defended the head of sports, who left at the beginning of the year with symptoms of exhaustion, against hostility from the ultra scene, managing director Markus Aretz has now responded to the harsh words of the 49 -year-olds reacted.

In the past few weeks, anger has boiled over in parts of the Gladbach fan scene because Max Eberl, after his spectacular retirement at the beginning of the year and a break of several months, decided to re-enter the football business for RB Leipzig of all people. The 49-year-old will start his new job at the group club in mid-December.

Of the sometimes sharp criticism, the letter from the Gladbach fan project hit him hardest. “I understand the disappointment expressed in it that I’m going to RB. But not that I’m accused of lying and drama,” he said recently in the “Welt am Sonntag” and clearly added: Also, “that the club is like that does not reject something immediately”, disappointed him.

In Gladbach they would know “how I felt and how often I cried in conversations and said that I couldn’t do it anymore. That’s why I was very disappointed that people with whom I worked almost every day for 23 years didn’t tell me I can’t understand that,” Eberl continued.

Gladbach boss: “We think it would be better for both sides…”

Gladbach’s managing director Markus Aretz does not want to leave this hard billing. “Borussia agreed to Max’s wish to quit his job and leave the club, and recently also met his wish to work in Leipzig from December. We don’t want to say any more about the matter,” Aretz said the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

In addition, the managing director called Eberl indirectly to no longer address the topic publicly. “We believe that it would be better for both sides if there was calm in this matter and that there is no back and forth of mutual accusations now,” said the former press secretary, who has now even been promoted to vice president.
