Max Eberl’s possible move from Borussia Mönchengladbach to RB Leipzig has been a hotly debated topic for weeks. The former Gladbach sporting director is said to want to try a new start with the Red Bulls, but they have apparently not been willing to put up enough money to sign the 48-year-old.
At the moment it does not look as if Max Eberl will start business as sports director at RB Leipzig any time soon. Although the former Gladbach manager, who resigned from Borussia at the beginning of the year due to symptoms of exhaustion, is the preferred candidate, the biggest hurdle on Eberl’s way to Leipzig is still his contract, which runs until 2026.
The talks with RB were “unproductive”, the five-time champion recently told the “Rheinische Post”. Allegedly, Borussia is hoping for a transfer fee in the double-digit million range for Eberl.
As “Bild” now revealed, the RB managers are said to have submitted an initial offer of just 500,000 euros.
This offer was immediately rejected by the chief financial officer of the Niederrhein club, Stephan Schippers, according to the report. Although internally they have now moved away from the original demands in the ten million euro range, it should be at least five million euros. There could also be bonus payments. Thus, the first RB offer would have been at least ten times too low.
Eberl would probably bet on Rose
If both parties eventually agree and Eberl actually hires the Sachsen-Klub, RB coach Domenico Tedesco’s days could be numbered. The 36-year-old is currently only five points from five games after the weak start to the season, Leipzig is in crisis.
As “Bild” further reports, former BVB coach Marco Rose would be the favorite to succeed Tedesco as soon as Eberl takes over the helm.
Rose’s contract in Dortmund was terminated. The coach knows the RB cosmos very well from his time in Salzburg and has already worked with Eberl in Gladbach. In addition, the native of Leipzig lives with his family very close to his birthplace.
