Defender Nico Elvedi is about to move from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League. According to a recent media report, Gladbach seems to have already found a suitable successor for the Swiss.
According to “Bild”, Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach is about to sign Maximilian Wöber. The 25-year-old only switched last winter from the Austrian series champions RB Salzburg to England relegated Leeds United and was given a contract until 2027, and now the lightning separation is imminent.
Wöber will therefore initially switch to the foals on a loan basis. However, the Austrian could then move permanently to Gladbach by means of a contractually agreed purchase option. Thus, the defensive man could ultimately play in the long term on the Lower Rhine.
The “image” report does not show how high the purchase option for Wöber is.
Gladbach-Flirt has Champions League experience
Borussia Mönchengladbach had already strengthened their defense this summer with 21-year-old Fabio Chiarodia from Werder Bremen, who was given a four-year contract. In defensive chief Ko Itakura and the experienced Bundesliga players Marvin Friedrich and Tony Jantschke, the club has three more defensive options even if Nico Elvedi leaves.
According to media reports, Elvedi is about to move to the Premier League. Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be ready to transfer ten million euros to Gladbach to buy the 26-year-old out of his contract, which runs until 2024.
In Wöber, Borussia would get a very experienced man: the left-footed player can already look back on 26 appearances in the Champions League. Before moving to Leeds, where he was one of the regular players in the second half of the season, he had already worked for top European clubs FC Sevilla and Ajax Amsterdam.
