For weeks there have been reports about Nico Elvedi’s upcoming move from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Wolverhampton Wanderers. But now a Premier League competitor is apparently getting involved in poker for the Gladbach star.
As “Sky Sports” reports, Everton FC is interested in signing Elvedis. Accordingly, the Toffees have already contacted those responsible for the foals to negotiate a transfer.
Elvedi’s contract in Gladbach is only dated until 2024. If Borussia does not want to let the central defender go free of charge, he should be sold in this transfer window.
Gladbach demands more than ten million euros for Elvedi
Most recently, Wolverhampton Wanderers in particular were considered the hottest buyers for Elvedi. Recently, however, the rumors have died down. The sticking point in the negotiations was probably the amount of the transfer fee.
According to the “kicker”, the Premier League club was willing to pay a sum in the high single-digit millions. The “image” wrote of almost ten million euros. Far too little for the financially troubled Borussia. How much Everton wants to put on the table is not known.
“The interested party should move, but at the moment it’s generally very quiet on the transfer market. We’re waiting, there are still two weeks to go. It’s absolutely fine that Nico now wants to try something new after eight great years with us.” , Roland Virkus told the tabloid in mid-August. But Gladbach doesn’t have much time left. The transfer window closes at 6pm on September 1st.
In order not to risk injury, Gladbach recently decided not to play for Elvedi. In the DFB-Pokal (7-0 against TuS Bersenbrück), the Swiss national player was only on the bench and was not in the squad for the first two Bundesliga games.
Elvedi switched from FC Zurich to Gladbach in the summer of 2015 for four million euros. Since then he has played 270 competitive games for Borussia.
