Vocalist Anna Puu performed the national anthems of Finland and the United States in the NHL match between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Colorado Avalanche in Tampere on Saturday.
The Nokia Arena loudly sang along to the Maamme song. The performance made an impression even in North America.
A video of Anna Puu’s Maamme performance was published on the Columbus Twitter account. The club passed on the praise in both English and Finnish.

Columbus and Colorado met twice in Tampere.
In the final set of Saturday’s match, the DJ in the arena played a very familiar song to Finns – Den glider in. The classic ignited the audience to sing along, which surprised the Blue Jackets court reporter Jeff Svoboda.
– I have no idea which Finnish song they played during the commercial break, but almost everyone stood up, sang and danced. It was pretty cool, says the NHL reporter.
The reply to the tweet came very quickly and the story of the song sung in Swedish was explained to Svoboda.
– I can’t describe in words how much I love Finns. Beautiful foxing, the reporter added.
Colorado won Saturday’s match 5–1.
