Gislason expects Weber to play at the start of the European Championship

Berlin (dpa) – National coach Alfred Gislason expects the ailing playmaker Philipp Weber to play at the start of the European Handball Championship against Belarus this Friday (6 p.m. / ARD).

“We assume he will be ready for the game,” said Gislason. The final training of the DHB selection on Thursday afternoon should bring the last information about the fitness of the backcourt player from Bundesliga leaders SC Magdeburg, who suffered a bruised shoulder at the EM dress rehearsal against France last Sunday.

Satisfied with Corona protective measures

Meanwhile, the DHB entourage is satisfied with the implementation of the corona protective measures. “We can’t complain. So far it has been very professional and very correct, both in the hotel and in the hall,” said Gislason.

Previously, there had been some harsh criticism from EM participants France and Serbia of the lax corona rules in Hungary. The German team plays their preliminary round matches against Belarus, Austria and Poland in the Slovak capital, Bratislava. “In Hungary everything seems to be extremely relaxed. Of course, that’s not ideal. We can’t say anything negative, on the contrary. So far everything has been very, very good,” emphasized Gislason.

The German team has so far been spared a positive corona case. The situation is completely different with the last preliminary round opponent Poland, where seven players were infected. There were two positive cases shortly before leaving for Bratislava, five more after arriving at the European Championship venue.
