Giroud-Milan, stay or go? For Furlani it is “too early to talk about it”

The Frenchman’s contract expires in June, then he will decide what to do. This year he is scoring as usual and is in his third season in double figures. Furlani opens up to the attacker’s stay

Olivier Giroud is standing in front of two half-open doors. On one side there is the Milan coat of arms, the club that took him by the hand as reigning European champions and gave him a scudetto; on the other side there is a question mark this big. A point that he knows about the future, because in September the Frenchman will reach 38 years of age and therefore it is time to take stock. To continue? Quit? Tear up the last contract in the United States or maybe in France? At the moment the tip is still reflecting.

The link with the Rossoneri will expire in June. Furlani, after the match won against Rennes, spoke like this about the next few months, leveraging the decision to be made: “Maybe it’s a bit early to talk about it, but if Giroud wants to stay, the door is open…”. Even at 38 years old. Even for one last season. Especially because the Frenchman is continuing to throw it in continuously: already 12 goals in 28 games. Third year in a row in double figures in the championship, where he is third on the scoring podium behind Lautaro Martinez and Vlahovic, a 26 and a 24 year old. If Giroud is experiencing a second youth, his merits must also be shared with Pioli, someone who has always valued him and put him at center stage. OG repaid him with his closeness in dark moments, as also told to Journal in mid-January: “When he was in the storm I spoke to him, always giving him my support.” That’s what leaders do. The bomber jackets with a twist within easy reach. Giroud arrived in Milan to break the curse of the number nine and he succeeded. Since he wore the Rossoneri he has scored 44 goals in 113 games. Only with Arsenal did he score more (105), but he played for five and a half years.

the future

Giroud is called upon to decide what to do with his life. In Milan he is doing well, scoring and having fun, but it is clear that in the summer the Rossoneri will acquire the much-loved young striker. A question of age, above all, because Olivier will be 38 years old, but also of futurity: a center forward under 24 will arrive regardless. The Frenchman could remain as a “spare striker”, put in quotes due to his history. A Giroud with 25 games a year and around ten goals would be useful to anyone, but the decision is up to him. An unusual scenario for a club, which always chooses what to do with its members by outlining their path. Furlani, however, said that “the door is always open”. In front of Giroud there are two. In June he will decide which one to open.
