Giro d’Italia 2022: Cavendish Wins Stage Three – Giro d’Italia – Cycling

Former world champion Cavendish won the third stage over 201 kilometers from Kaposvar to Balatonfüred at the end of the Hungarian guest performance on Sunday (May 8th, 2022) ahead of Frenchman Arnaud Demare and Colombian Fernando Gaviria. The best German in the mass sprint was Phil Bauhaus in tenth place.

Van der Poel continued in pink

The Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel, who won the opening stage and also impressed in the time trial on Saturday with second place, still wears the pink jersey for first place overall. His lead in the overall standings over Briton Simon Yates is eleven seconds. Emanuel Buchmann, who is aiming for a top position in the final standings, is 1:08 minutes behind after his crash on Saturday.

After three stages in Hungary, the Giro returns to Italy. After the rest day on the fourth stage on Tuesday over 172 kilometers up to Mount Etna, the first mountain finish is already waiting. The Tour of Italy ends on May 29 in Verona.
