Klaas Dijkhoff and Gert-Jan Segers received a lot of media attention yesterday for their new podcast about politics. They want to set an example by being ‘courteous’ to those who think differently. It was also discussed in the yesterday Media forum on NPO Radio 1, where Martha Riemsma was one of the guests.

Courteous Martha

Martha, Matthijs van Nieuwkerk’s girlfriend who also has TV ambitions, creates an awkward radio moment when she spontaneously starts talking about those ‘courteous’ ambitions of Klaas and Gert-Jan. “I still have to think about the courtesy they strive for and then I thought: yes, but not everyone is equally courteous anymore, are they?”

No, indeed, Martha, ask your guy. She continues: “So if you have two people who want to basically adhere to the standards of decency, yes, it’s easy. Then you can indeed fight each other on content, but the moment that is no longer the case with a number of parties, what do you do then, eh?”

Uncomfortable

huh? Is Martha trying to make some kind of joke here? Or has she just not realized that it’s a little uncomfortable to talk about fading decency when you have a man at home who almost demanded that a cameraman kneel in front of him? “Say: sorry, mister Van Nieuwkerk!”

Presenter on duty Carl-Johan de Zwart does not seem to be sure of Martha’s intentions. He responds: “Yes, make a podcast about that. With someone who is not courteous.”

Just then Martha’s expression jumps (can be seen again from minute 12:45). It is clear that she realizes exactly at that moment that this is actually very much about her own sweetheart.

Courteous harness

Martha stammers: “Yes, I would find that interesting too.”

Is she indirectly putting forward her own Matthijs here? At least he has something to do. And she can finally fluff up the pillows at home.

Carl-Johan: “And you have to somehow get them back in line with courtesy. That would be a fun challenge.”

Martha awkwardly: “Yeah, exactly.”

TV ambitions

It’s no secret that Martha has the ambition to follow in Matthijs’ footsteps and also build a TV career. She is currently making a monthly talk show without cameras in the music café of pop venue Metropool in Enschede. Last month she arranged, through Matthijs, none other than Paul de Leeuw.

Does she also get tips from Matthijs? Yes, she recently revealed 1Twente. “Certainly, he is of course the best possible coach imaginable. That of course helps a lot. How to insert a question or help a conversation move forward when it gets a bit stuck. Yes of course. I am very happy with that.”
