A four-year-old girl has been thrown overboard in a scuffle between the crew of a Tunisian fishing boat and a group of migrants in another boat in the Mediterranean Sea. This is reported by the Italian news agency Ansa. The child is missing.
The incident occurred between Tunisia and Italy. According to Ansa, the crew of a Tunisian fishing boat tried to steal the engine of the boat carrying migrants and the girl fell overboard during the scuffle.
According to the Italian coastguard, the child fell from the boat near the island of Lampedusa, in the Italian search and rescue zone. The girl’s body has not yet been found. The approximately 30 other migrants on board the ship were transferred to Lampedusa.
