A 14-year-old girl who was playing hide and seek with local children was shot in the head by a neighbor. The man from Louisiana in the US says he was startled “by shadows around his house”. The victim sustained head injuries, but fortunately his life is not in danger. The shooter, a 58-year-old man, has been arrested.
LOOK. The shooting incident took place on this property in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana
The incident happened last Sunday. Children from the Starks neighborhood of Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, were playing hide and seek, police said. In doing so, they came upon the neighbour’s property. According to television channel KPLCTV, this happened in a dead end street where there are only three houses. The perpetrator’s house, the one where the victim lives and another house where the victim’s family lives.
Neighbor David Doyle (58) told detectives that he took out his gun when he saw “shadows outside his house”. He shot at people he saw running away, but says he didn’t know he had hit the girl. The man has been arrested and charged with illegally using a firearm and causing serious injury.
Another incident
The shooting is the umpteenth in a row in which young people are shot for an unimaginably banal reason.
In Kansas City, Missouri, a 16-year-old boy was shot by a homeowner in April after he rang the wrong doorbell.
And Kaylin Gillis, a 20-year-old woman, was shot dead in Hebron, New York, while riding in a car with three friends. The driver had entered the wrong driveway. The owner of the house immediately fired in their direction.
Stricter gun laws
Many firearms are freely available in the US. The ubiquity of weapons ensures that conflicts quickly degenerate into violence. US President Joe Biden is calling for stricter gun laws that restrict the sale of certain assault weapons.
