Since January I have been living in Milan and living in a university boarding school for nuns. Not for an economic question (I don’t save at all), but for practicality: I have my own private room, but when I want company, two steps are enough to find myself in the living room with others. In the coming weeks, however, I’ll do some sort of CouchSurfingthat is, I will go and stay on the sofa of friends while they, in turn, will be on vacation, taking care of dogs, cats and plants ».

“As soon as the Ukrainian conflict started, I spent two months in Moldova, to offer social and health assistance and psychological support to the refugees. I live these trips as moments of enrichment. Those who have just crossed the border have a very ambivalent experience: they are traumatized, they suffer from what they have lost, and at the same time they are overwhelmed by the joy of being alive. This is what he shares with us and which by listening we help him integrate into his life ».

«When I work in Milan I move with the mobile clinic in the most difficult areas with a doctor and a nurse. At lunch I nibble on protein bars without leaving the gazebo. Down there we visit for free people who may not have documents in order or in any case for other reasons they don’t want to go to the doctor or to the hospital. We build a relationship with them by returning to the same squares every week. I often talk to women from South Americaperhaps because they are more used to taking care of their mental health. They tell terrifying stories of abuse and domestic violence“.

«I travel frequently and with a few days’ notice: I have no children or a partner, so I don’t struggle to organize myself quickly. For 4 years I worked in Camerino, among the earthquake victims of the Marche, and there I realized that both refugees and displaced people struggle to leave their homeland, both believe it is better to resist in the rubble rather than live in suspense in the containers of the reception centers ».

«As a psychologist I try not to put myself in my patients’ shoes, but to help them put themselves in their own, so that they can unravel the tangle of so many difficult experiences. There comes a time, however, at the end of the day, when I have to listen to myself. And then I walk for an hour. Today I breathe the heat of Milan, but when I was in Camerino, at the foot of the Sibillini mountains, I often met red-tailed foxes ».

With the exception of Thursdays and Saturdays, the boarding school closes its doors at 10pm: then you no longer enter. When I went to the Caparezza concert a few days ago, I had to sleep with a colleague. If I don’t go out, I watch series like NCIS or Grey’s Anatomy on my mobile. Mine is not a solitary life: people like me who work in highly emotional environments have very strong ties with colleagues ».
