According to media watcher Victor Vlam, Giovanca Ostiana does not speak the truth about her departure from Op1. She said she did not leave voluntarily at all. “I’m skeptical about it.”
After years of being maligned, Giovanca Ostiana finally threw in the towel last week: she left Op1. The presenter will now focus again on non-substantive programs, such as the musical TV show Zing. Why? Because that’s where her heart really lies, she says.
Victor skeptical
Media connoisseur Victor Vlam thinks that Giovanca just got the sack. He says in the podcast The Communicados: “The journalistic baggage to really just have good journalistic conversations was not there and that will be the reason that people thought: this just doesn’t fit so well anymore.”
Resigned voluntarily? Victor doesn’t believe that. “I’m always a bit skeptical when people say on television that they’re leaving voluntarily because most of the time that’s just not the case. People always think so, they always say it’s voluntary, but most of the time it’s not.”
Chess game
That Giovanca was just dumped by the top, he thinks. “Most of the people in the picture are just pawns in a game of chess played by other people, namely the bosses. You are a bit at the mercy of their whims, so to speak. And I suspect that also plays a role here.”
He continues: “She says she will be presenting another programme. Well, that’s a singing competition that will probably last six to eight weeks. You can also take a few weeks off from Op1 if you’re too busy to combine that with Op1. You don’t have to step back completely for that, of course.”
Opportunity argument
Co-host Lars Duursma thinks the same. “Yes, and Op1 is one day a week that she presents. So it’s not that you can’t do anything besides that.”
Giovanca also says she hoped there would be more music and culture in Op1, but that the corona crisis threw a spanner in the works. Lars: “Then I thought: yes, that is an occasional argument, because the corona crisis has been over for a while. Then you would expect that if that is really something that bothers you, that you do it during the corona pandemic. But certainly not after that.”
