Mönchengladbach (AP) – National soccer player Matthias Ginter is leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach without resentment despite the quarrels about his farewell in the summer.
“Of course there are always valleys that you have to go through in the course of a career, so I would add the last time,” said the 28-year-old in a Sport1 interview. “But I will give everything for the club until the end and beyond and only speak positively about him because I see the big picture and really had a wonderful time here.” On (today’s) Saturday (6.30 p.m.) Ginter will play his last Rheinderby with Borussia against Cologne.
The club’s offer to extend the contract was not the reason for his departure. “No, that wasn’t true. If I were to look at all the details of the last year and a half now, that would go beyond the scope of this interview,” explained Ginter. “But the offer I received at the end of last year had nothing to do with my decision. I had made it long before that for various reasons,” said the defender. Ginter can leave Mönchengladbach free of charge at the end of the season after five years.
There is always speculation about a possible move to Bayern Munich. But clubs from the English Premier League are also said to have expressed an interest.
