Gil Ofarim has made a confession – and the musician is apparently withdrawing from the public for now. Because his Instagram profile, which was recently followed by around 166,000 people, is no longer accessible. If you search for the page on Google and want to access it via the link, you will now read: “Unfortunately, this page is not available. Either the link you clicked doesn’t work or the page has been removed.”
It stands to reason that Ofarim deactivated his profile himself. In his last post, which was published a few weeks ago, there had been a lot of hostility and malice in the past few hours since the confession. Among other things, the musician was called a hypocrite there.
The Central Council of Jews also commented on the Ofarim case. In a statement it said: “For two years, Gil Ofarim accused employees of a Leipzig hotel of anti-Semitism. Now he has admitted that he lied. In doing so, Gil Ofarim has caused great harm to all those who are actually affected by anti-Semitism.”
Gil Ofarim: Unexpected confession
On Tuesday afternoon Gil Ofarim surprisingly admitted at the regional court in Leipzigthat he had lied in his video released in October 2021. He had claimed that the employees of a hotel in Leipzig did not want to check him in like other guests because of his Star of David necklace. Since the accusation could not be proven, Ofarim was charged with slander and false suspicion. And the musician finally admitted that the allegations against him were true. “I would like to apologize. I’m sorry,” Gil Ofarim said to the hotel employee, who accepted the apology.
The 41-year-old now also has to live with the fact that he suffered economic damage as a result of the campaign – through a lack of appearances, but also through the fine of 10,000 euros imposed. This will be donated to the Jewish Community of Leipzig and the sponsoring association of the Wannsee Conference House. The co-plaintiff will also receive compensation, but nothing is currently known about the amount of the payment.
