Gil Ofarim confesses – trial probably over

The musician admits in court: the allegations against him are true. He apologizes.

A trial for defamation and false suspicions against the Jewish singer Gil Ofarim ran until November 28th in Leipzig. The trigger for the legal dispute was a video that Ofarim posted online in October 2021 in which he made serious accusations against an employee of a Leipzig hotel. The musician claimed that he asked him to take off his Star of David necklace so that he could check in. However, the incident led to charges against Ofarim himself, while the case against the hotel manager was dropped.

But now the court proceedings have also been temporarily ended. The reason: Ofarim agreed to the allegations. He explained to the hotel manager: “The allegations are true. Mr. W., I would like to apologize to you, I’m sorry, I deleted the video.”

The hotel manager was also there and accepted the apology. It is therefore not necessary to continue the process because the employee’s reputation has been restored, according to the court. Ofarim is now required to make a donation totaling 10,000 euros to the Jewish community in Leipzig and to the sponsoring association of the Wannsee Conference House over the next six months.
