Gijs Brouwer has qualified for the main tournament of the US Open. The tennis player from Venhuizen was too strong for the British Paul Jubb in the decisive qualifying round in three sets.
It is the first time in his career that Brouwer has reached the main schedule of a grand slam tournament. Brouwer, the number 184 in the world, will meet Adrian Mannarino (ATP-65) in the first round of the tournament in New York.
The other North Hollander in the US Open singles is Tallon groenpoor (ATP-46). The tennis player from Nieuw-Vennep starts the last grand slam of the season against Federico Coria, the Argentine number 78 of the global tennis ladder.
The main tournament of The US Open starts on Monday, August 27. The final of the men’s tournament is on Sunday 11 September.
