On Thursday, Franziska Giffey (SPD) made her first government statement in front of the Berlin House of Representatives. A comment from BZ editor Stefan Peter.
Franziska Giffey’s government statement was solid. Two of the most important topics for Berlin, building and living, took up a lot of space. Which is not surprising – after all, the SPD politician wants to make the fight against excessive rents a matter for the bosses. Good this way!
But the speech wasn’t really impressive. A spirit of optimism, convincing visions for the capital? none.

Which is probably not solely Giffey’s fault. She had to enter into a coalition with two parties that were not (and never will be) her ideal partner. They are difficult and want to be cared for and petted.
That’s why the government gave a lot of praise for each individual senator on Thursday.
