The Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (44, SPD) is threatened with a defeat within the party. The reason for this is the dispute over the further construction of the city motorway.

On June 19, the comrades meet at their state party conference in the Estrel. Motions could be submitted up until May 15, which are then put to the vote.

Application 174/I/2022 from Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg should become a problem for Giffey. It says: “The Social Democratic members of the Senate and the Federal Government are called upon to oppose the further planning of the Federal Ministry of Transport for the 17th construction phase of the A 100.”

Although red-green-red is against the current plans of the federal government – but only in the current legislative period. The coalition agreement does not say (at Giffey’s request) what should happen to the A 100 in the future.

The remarkable thing is not the application itself, but the recommendation of the application committee: “acceptance”! This would make it impossible for Giffey to push ahead with further construction in the future.

“Ms. Giffey keeps running into the wall in her SPD,” said CDU General Secretary Stefan Evers (42) to the BZ “You can almost feel sorry for her – whoever has such party friends no longer needs enemies.”
