Franziska Giffey (45, SPD) also has a busy schedule as a Senator for Economic Affairs. Thursday’s program: opening of a tourism festival, award ceremony at Spindler & Klatt and presentation of a campus for young companies.
This campus (“ringberlin”) is being built on the Ringstrasse – innovative companies are to network in a start-up center. Workshops, offices and test areas are planned on the site, which the start-ups can share. This keeps the costs manageable.
The campus is moving into a listed factory building of the former Askania works, which is already being renovated. Costs: 60 million euros, of which 36 million euros are funded. An operator is now being sought across Europe.
Giffey: “Future founders will find attractive conditions here. Mariendorf and all of Berlin benefit from this.”
