Gidsel is hoping for a home game for Füchse in Flensburg

At the Final Four in the Handball European League, Füchse Berlin will face the top French club Montpellier in the semifinals on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / DAZN). Foxes star Mathias Gidsel (24) is hoping for special support: from many Danish fans.

And that’s how it works: Flensburg-Handewitt is the organizer of the Euro final, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals. That helps the Danish plan of the foxes.

Gidsel: “Flensburg is very close to Denmark. I hope the Danes who already had tickets and wanted to cheer for Flensburg are now with us and are wearing green or red shirts. I would be happy about a ‘home game’ in Flensburg.”

That is not unlikely, because the Foxes have four Danish world champions (2021 and 2019) in Gidsel, Hans Lindberg, Jacob Holm and Lasse Andersson. Gidsel: “The Final Four is also a good opportunity for my family, they only live two hours away. My parents and many acquaintances and friends are coming. I am very happy to play in front of them.”

Full of anticipation, Gidsel boarded the team bus at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Füchse star travels to Flensburg with his Berlin team the day before, the Berliners are the first team there.

“We don’t want to leave anything to chance, we want to have less stress with all the media appointments. We’re hot for this trophy,” reveals the best left-hander in the world. And Gidsel adds: “The fact that we lost the championship was shit because it happened to us against BHC, Stuttgart and Minden and not against one of the top teams. The European Cup is now the only chance for us to win a title.”
