Alexander Schmid with a top starting position
One who could annoy him is Alexander Schmid. The 27-year-old from SC Fischen, unlike his 14th place on Saturday, had a really good run from top to bottom, was able to keep all his competitors in check, especially in the flatter middle section, and is only 0.22 seconds behind Odermatt in second place .
He was also faster than Saturday’s winner, Henrik Kristoffersen (Norway / + 0.30 seconds), Gino Caviezel (Switzerland / + 0.32) or Stefan Brennsteiner (Austria / + 0.47), who were also good have a chance of a podium finish.
“More punch” makes the difference
“Yesterday we analyzed everything again and made some changes to the material”revealed Schmid on the sports show microphone. “I got a bit more punch out of the jump, maybe that was the key”. The man from the Allgäu was probably a bit surprised himself that things went so well for him today, because: “I wasn’t physically well and I hardly slept last night.”
As on Saturday, two more DSV drivers reached the final of the top 30: Fabian Gratz drove with start number 52 in 20th place (+ 2.00), Anton Grammel, who dropped out on Saturday in the second run with an intermediate best time shortly before the finish was, made it with number 50 to place 26 (+ 2.30). “I’ll do everything exactly like yesterday, only this time I’ll finish”Grammel had promised before his second World Cup appearance.
Julian Rauchfuss was unlucky again. With a deficit of 2.46 seconds he missed seven hundredths of a second to also finish in the top 30.
