Meta, which offers social media services, received a huge fine of 1.2 billion euros from the European Union. Meta’s services include Facebook, Instagram and the instant messaging application Whatsapp.

The fines were imposed because Meta has illegally transferred the data of users from European Union member countries to the United States. This was reported by the Irish regulatory authority.

Fines imposed by the EU are collected by the Irish Data Protection Authority. Facebook has been required to stop transferring user data to the United States within five months.

Meta has stated that the decision is illegal and unnecessary. The company said it would appeal the decision.

They told about it Reuters and AFP.
