The incident took place on a river in Bloomfield, Queensland, on Wednesday. A 37-year-old man was walking his dog Magic Molly. A video shared by Australian media shows a crocodile suddenly emerging from the brown water and biting the man’s leg. The man is able to free himself and then unsuccessfully tries to save his dog, which was pulled into the river by the crocodile. The injured man was later airlifted to a hospital in the city of Cairns.

One day after the attack, rangers found the 4.2-meter-long reptile about 200 meters away. The animal was killed because it posed an “unacceptable risk”, the news agency writes. After further investigation, remains of the dog were found in the stomach of the crocodile.

According to AAP, it was Australia’s 11th crocodile attack in two years.
