FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced that he will seek reelection in next year’s presidential election. FIFA’s 72nd Ordinary Congress was held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, with the participation of the presidents and senior executives of the member federations.
The Turkish Football Federation was represented at the congress by President Nihat Özdemir, 1st Deputy Chairman and UEFA Executive Board Member Servet Assistant and Secretary General Kadir Kardaş.
Making a statement at the congress where preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the issues on the agenda were discussed, Infantino stated that he would be a candidate again in the presidential election to be held next year. Infantino, who will be elected to his third term, took office in 2016.
On the other hand, Infantino, regarding the possibility of the World Cup to be held every two years, said, “I would like to make it clear that FIFA did not make a proposal to organize the tournament every two years. The team under the management of Arsene Wenger conducted a feasibility study. It was concluded that it was feasible, but there were some reactions. “We will try to create a discussion environment by involving the league, club and players in order to produce a suitable result for everyone. Any positive, negative or neutral feedback is important to us in this discussion. I am pleased that national team football is on the agenda again.”
