At the CinemaCon film fair, which is currently taking place in Las Vegas, Sony announced a new “Ghostbusters” film. However, there is not much information about it yet. It can be assumed that some of the actors from the predecessor, which was released in 2021, “Ghostbusters Afterlife‘ (in German ‘Legacy’) will be involved and the film will be a direct successor.

Afterlife was about the adventures of the grandchildren of former ghostbuster Dr. Egon Spengler. The film was originally supposed to be released in cinemas in summer 2020, but was then postponed to November 2021 due to the corona pandemic and cinemas being closed in many countries. The film grossed $197.3 million worldwide. The now-announced film will be the fifth film in the franchise, following Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters (2016) and Afterlife.

Sony also announced another Venom movie at CinemaCon. The anti-hero franchise has two films to date, the 2018 original Venom and its sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In both films, British actor Tom Hardy played the lead role of journalist Eddie Brock. Although both the original film and the sequel were poorly received by critics, they did well at the box office. Together, the two “Venom” films grossed around $1.4 billion worldwide. Sony is showing a first short teaser behind closed doors at the trade fair, but it probably didn’t show much more than the film logo.
