A man was arrested on Thursday evening in a meadow on the Slimweg in Hoogkarspel who used 1,250 liters of fuel had stolen at a gas station in Breukelen. Because barrels in the back of the van leaked, the fire brigade had to come in to clean and check everything.
After a report was received of a petrol theft at a gas station in Breukelen, the police from Hoorn (on the A7) gave chase to a van with a Spanish registration number. Partly because the suspect had been wrong-way driving for some time, the pursuit was briefly halted due to danger, after which a larger police unit was deployed.
After the van was enclosed, the suspect fled into the meadow. The police then launched a major search with a helicopter and police dogs. After a long search, the suspect was arrested around 9:30 p.m.
