“Get your own ambulance, because we don’t have enough staff”: a fun campaign to address a staff shortage in emergency zone 1 Bruges
Since the zoning, the Bruges fire stations have been struggling with an acute shortage of personnel. “The shifts are going too far. This summer we will not be able to man one or even three of our six ambulances every day. That means that as a citizen you should hope that we are available if you need us,” it sounds.
No solutions
“The last-minute solutions that are offered are bad, or even dangerous. The surrounding municipalities are also getting into serious problems as a result. Both volunteer posts and professional posts can no longer provide care. The safety of the citizen is being played with.”
The measure is full for emergency zone 1. According to them, there is no response to the proposals to solve the problem. They now turn to the zone council and the zone leadership. They demand correct occupations of the Bruges post, adapted to the functions, a clear policy, a workable and balanced system and consultation with all parties before an important decision is made.
Self-service
To demonstrate the staff shortage, the ambulance post is doing a fun campaign in Bruges: the self-service ambulance. “Pick up the keys and bring 750 euros as a deposit. Depart with speed to the place of intervention. Return the ambulance in a clean condition, without bloodstains or vomit.”
