Germany’s U21s travel to Israel – U21s – football for top game after beating Latvia

With the 4-0 (3-0) win against Latvia in Aachen on Friday (March 25th, 2022), Germany is the sole leader of Group B three games before the end, ahead of Israel, who only drew against Poland on Thursday. On Tuesday (5 p.m.) the German U21s, in which numerous players were injured or ill, will play against Israel.

The German team, who won the first leg in Latvia 3-1, are leaders with 18 points. Only the group winners and the best of nine runners-up qualify directly for the finals in summer 2023 in Georgia and Romania. The remaining runners-up go to the playoffs. The games against Hungary and in Poland will follow for Germany in June.

Burkardt with two goals, Atubolu saved the penalty

Germany celebrated the success despite personnel problems. In front of 7,718 spectators in the Tivoli, captain Jonathan Burkardt (25th minute/43rd), Ansgar Knauff (26th) and Malik Tillman (75th) scored twice for the team coached by Antonio Di Salvo. Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu saved a penalty kick against Latvian Lukass Vapne in the 66th minute.
