Germany vs. Türkiye | Press reviews: “Imagination runs away with Julian Nagelsmann”

Euphoria brake! The German national soccer team lost for the first time under new national coach Julian Nagelsmann and in the 2-3 defeat against Turkey revealed weak points that actually seemed to have been eliminated almost seven months before the home European Championship. This is how the press reacted to the game:

GERMANY

ntv: “The imagination runs away with Julian Nagelsmann! For a good half hour, Julian Nagelsmann was the DFB team’s miracle worker against Turkey. But then the tide turned. His experiment, Kai Havertz, of all people, was at the center of the first defeat.”

RTL: “Put a damper on European Championship euphoria: Turks show DFB players the limits. In his third game as national coach, Julian Nagelsmann suffered his first defeat. The new euphoria that came after the 3-1 win against the USA and the draw against Mexico (2:2) is now gone again.”

kicker: “The tender mood of optimism under Julian Nagelsmann only lasted until his third game. In the 2-3 win against Turkey, the result was a disappointment and the wild performance over long stretches was a serious setback.”

Picture: “There’s still a lot of work waiting until our next summer fairy tale! 208 days before the start of the home European Championships next year, Julian Nagelsmann suffered his first defeat on his home debut as national coach in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.”

Mirror: “Nagelsmann’s experiments only work for a few minutes. At his home debut, Julian Nagelsmann tried out a few things. Among other things, Kai Havertz played a kind of left-back. But the team seemed unsettled against Turkey as a result – the euphoria is in danger of disappearing.”

Southgerman newspaper: “Bitter evening for Nagelsmann. The national coach experienced his first defeat in his third game. In the 2:3 in Berlin against Turkey he risked a lot with the line-up – Kai Havertz, of all people, caused the game-winning penalty.”

Türkiye

Hurriyet: “Turkish night in Berlin! A star was born in the duel between Germany and Turkey: Kenan Yildiz made it at the age of just 18.”

Milliyet: “The victory in Berlin belongs to our boys. Kenan Yildiz, one of the stars of the friendly match in which the national team beat Germany 3-2 away, made the headlines.”

Sabah: “The new star of the national team shaped the evening! The national team won the game 3-2 and drew attention with their dominant game.”
