European Women’s Football ChampionshipGermany and Spain have made an excellent start to the European Championship for women. The Germans didn’t leave much of Denmark with a 4-0 victory, while the Spanish women were too strong for Finland with 4-1.
Germany took the lead against the Danes after 21 minutes, thanks to a good shot from Lina Magull. Shortly before that, Felicitas Rauch had hit the crossbar twice on behalf of the home team. Only after the interruption did Germany really distance itself from Denmark, which ended with ten men after red for substitute Kathrine Møller Kühl. Thanks to Lea Schüller, Lena Lattwein and Alexandra Popp ran Die Mannschaft looking forward to a great win. Germany thus leads Group B.
The goal difference of the Germans is just slightly better than Spain. La Roja also started strong, although things seemed to be going very differently early in the game. Linda Sällström put Finland ahead within a minute. Goals by Irene Paredes, Aitana Bonmati, Lucía García and a penalty kick by Mariona Caldentey helped the Spanish women to a 4-1 victory. The countries will face each other next Tuesday.
