The DHB team achieved an important victory against Iceland. Several German professionals impressed. But one fell off.
Shaky victory at the start of the main round: Led by the outstanding Andreas Wolff, Germany’s handball players are heading for the medal games at their home European Championship. National coach Alfred Gíslason’s team won a thriller against Iceland with 26:24 (11:10) and thus kept their chance of reaching the semi-finals. The German team now has 2:2 points in main round group I.
The man of the evening in the sold-out Lanxess Arena in Cologne was goalkeeper Wolff, who pulled the 19,750 fans out of their seats with his parades. Playmaker Juri Knorr also became the best German thrower in the fourth game of the tournament with six goals.
“The game was very strenuous. It was a defensive battle and a very good goalkeeping performance on both sides,” said Gíslason on the ZDF microphone: “We had a very difficult time because the Icelanders played very, very well. But a huge compliment to our boys, everything was open until the last second.”
You can see what grade goalkeeper Wolff receives for his performance and why Juri Knorr goes down on average despite his goals here or in the photo show above.
