Germany sends more troops to Eastern European NATO countries

Germany is going to send more soldiers and equipment to Eastern European NATO countries, reports the weekly Der Spiegel. It would involve 150 soldiers, more than ten armored vehicles, anti-aircraft guns and a few ships.

The extra manpower is intended to strengthen NATO’s eastern border in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Netherlands is also open to sending more people to the east, if NATO so requests.

NATO has already made it clear that no troops will be sent to Ukraine, which is not a member of the military alliance. Several countries have sent equipment. This is used, among other things, to stop Russian tanks.
