At the same time, six more top nations dueled in three other places for a place at the final tournament. So Portugal met Denmark at home. The Scandinavians won the first leg 1-0. In the second leg, both teams then delivered a gripping duel that was only finally decided in the extension. Ultimately, Portugal won 5: 2 (1: 0, 3: 2).
Cristiano Ronaldo awarded a penalty early (5th minute). An own goal of Joachim Andersen nevertheless equalized the result from the first game in the first section (38th minute). After the break, however, Rasmus then equalized (56.) before Portugal took the lead again through Cristiano Ronaldo (72nd). Christian Eriksen replied with the new equalization (76.). In the extension, Spain’s child prodigy Lamine Yamal (103.) and RB star Xavi were successful with a penalty (109.). In the subsequent penalty shootout, “La Furia Roja” kept the upper hand, even if Yamal failed from the point. Because in the Dutch, nerves showed long and painting.
France meanwhile equalized the 0-2 deficit from the first game against Croatia after 80 minutes. Ex-Dortmund star Ousmane Dembélé had the two-time world champion cheered for a second time after Bavaria’s Michael Olise took the lead after the break (52nd).
There was no hit in the extension, so it went into the penalty shootout. Several shooters on both sides awarded. But in the end it was Bavaria’s Josip Stanišić who failed decisively. Club colleague Dayot Upamecano did it better and shot France to the end.
