Germany goalkeeper Almuth Schult is moving from VfL Wolfsburg to Angels City FC in the USA after the European Football Championship. This was announced by the Los Angeles team.
Schult finishes the season in the Bundesliga and Champions League with Wolfsburg and takes part in the European Championships in England with Germany before going to California in the summer. There the 31-year-old gets a contract for one season with the option of another season. “It was always a dream of mine to play in the NWSL,” said Schult, according to the announcement.
Angels City FC begins its inaugural season in the NWSL professional women’s soccer league on April 29. By the time Schult joins the team, the team has already played several games of the season. Angels City FC is majority owned by women. Actress Natalie Portman is one of the founders and is one of several Hollywood greats committed to the project. Basketball star Candace Parker and former ski racer Lindsey Vonn are also among the investors.
