The home team England celebrated the European football championship on the green of Wembley. Germany had to settle for silver, but there was one blatant refereeing error in the game, which could have turned the game around.

In the 26th minute, with the game tied at 0-0, the ball hit the England captain by Leah Williamson to the hand above the shoulder line. The ball could have gone without touching the goal.

Match referee Kateryna Monzul ignored the situation. VAR interfered in the game, but England got away with it. Germany head coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg addressed the situation after the game.

– It was a must-see handball, Voss-Tecklenburg commented to the German public radio ARD.

However, the coach didn’t know until after the game that VAR had checked the situation on tape.

Voss-Tecklenburg did not roll over the loss due to one referee error.

– England deservedly won. They played a strong tournament. We are proud of what we achieved. Unfortunately, we were left with a bitter aftertaste.

England scored a 2–1 winning goal in overtime at the 110th minute and thus won the EC tournament.
