Germans lose tournament victory in Nicholasville

Despite an excellent starting position, the German golf pros missed out on a place on the podium at the PGA tournament in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

In the victory of the American Trey Mullinax (263 strokes), Olympic participant Hurly Long from St. Leon-Rot (267) took fourth place, while Matti Schmid (271) from Herzogenaurach shared eighth place.

After the stormy third round of the $3.7 million tournament on the US tour, Schmid went into the final 18 holes as the leader ahead of Hurly.

There he fell back with 77 strokes and the worst final round of all participants. Mullinax only needed 66 hits. Yannick Paul (Viernheim), who was initially ninth, fell back to 20th place (273).

Last September, 25-year-old Schmid celebrated the greatest success of his professional career by coming second at the Dutch Open. Long achieved his best result of the season so far in March with second place at the European Tour tournament in Kenya.
