FOOTBALL – The make-up game in the Sunday 1st division E between Germanicus and WVV ended tonight in a 0-2 victory for the team from Winschoten. Due to the defeat, the team from Coevorden is deeper in relegation concerns.
The game was very important for both teams. Germanicus is fighting against relegation, while WVV, which only has two loss points less than leader TVC’28, still hopes for promotion to the 4th division.
In a mediocre start of the match, Germanicus had to change coach Jan Wielink within fifteen minutes. Jessie Rotmensen got injured and was replaced by Stan Meijerink. But besides a substitution, there was nothing else to note.
The guests had more ball possession, but only created the first real chance after half an hour of play. Lars Wiekens shot the ball high over the goal of keeper Jehovah Mendes after a good individual action.
Five minutes later, Martijn Delger was close to 0-1, but the midfielder missed the goal, standing free in front of Germanicus’ goal.
The home club only became dangerous once from a corner before half-time, but no goals were scored before half-time.
After the break, the first chance was for the home club, but Roelof van Dijk’s shot bounced just wide of keeper Tim Lugies’ goal. On the other hand, Mendes had to act on Melvin Ubels’ shot.
Mendes had to save again after fifteen minutes of play. This time the Germanicus goalkeeper, with a stylish save, kept the clean sheet. The guests from Winschoten further increased the pressure and Germanicus came under increasing pressure.
Mendes had no chance after 68 minutes of play. Ubels was allowed to moor freely, from about seven meters, and the WVV player did not fail and shot hard into the 0-1.
In the final phase, a final offensive by the home club failed to materialize. In fact, deep into injury time, Stan Bruins decided the game. Mendes had gone forward with a corner, after which Bruins, in the counter, was able to shoot the 0-2 into an empty goal.
